Agnico Eagle is a senior Canadian gold mining company that has produced precious metals since 1957. Its operating mines are located in Canada, Finland and Mexico, with exploration activities in each of these countries as well as in the United States and Colombia. The company is listed on the New York and Toronto stock exchanges.
Agnico Eagle’s Kittilä mine is the largest primary gold producer in Europe. Its proven and probable gold reserves contain 4.1 million ounces (30,4 million tonnes at 4.16 g/t gold) as of December 31, 2020. According to the current estimates, the mine will continue its operations at least till 2035.
The Kittilä mine is located in northern Finland, approximately 900 kilometres north of Helsinki and 150 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. t employs 1,100 people, including contractors.
Early 2018, the company started an expansion investment at Kittilä mine. A 1,044-metre deep shaft is being built in the mine and the expansion of the mineral-processing plant was completed last year. The capacity of the processing plant is 2.0 million tonnes per annum and annual gold production is 250,000 ounces.
