Boliden Kevitsa open pit mine is located 140 kilometers north of Rovaniemi in Sodankylä municipality in northern Finland. Kevitsa is a nickel – copper sulphide deposit with important gold, cobalt and platinum-group-metals by-product credits. In 2023, around 9.8 Mt of ore was mined and processed into nickel and copper concentrates. Metal production in 2023 was circa 10 000 tons of nickel and 20 000 tons of copper in concentrate.

The Keliber lithium project is located in Kaustinen and Kokkola, Finland, where it is currently building a concentrator and a lithium refinery. The project is expected to be the first integrated European producer of battery-grade lithium hydroxide from its own mineral reserves, and to supply the region’s battery industry with a critical raw material that is necessary to produce electric vehicles.
