Boliden Kevitsa open pit mine is located 140 kilometers north of Rovaniemi in Sodankylä municipality. Kevitsa is a nickel – copper sulphide deposit with important gold, cobalt and platinum-group-metals by-product credits. In 2021, around 9.5 Mt of ore was mined and processed into nickel and copper concentrates. A target of 10 Mt milled ore was set for 2022.
